MARIA LAI | CATALOGUE OF THE EXHIBITION SUL FILO DELL'INFINITO
Maria Lai (Ulassai 1919 – Cardedu 2013) is undoubtedly one of the most significant exponents of contemporary Italian art. This is not only due to the originality of her works but also to the simplicity of her language, which contrasts with the universality of the message expressed by her profoundly multi-material works. Experiments in relational art, weaving, rhythm, sculpture, and writing: these are the manifestations of her poetics.
The volume accompanies the exhibition Sul Filo dell'Infinito (Nuova Galleria Morone, 16 February – 22 April 2023) and presents a heterogeneous variety of the artist's works, ranging from geographies to his iconic artist's books.
The catalogue, conceived as a notebook, pays homage to the artist on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his first solo exhibition at the Nuova Galleria Morone in 2013 and to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his death.
Through a selection of works, Sul filo dell'infinito proposes an anthropological investigation through the story of the enchanted and mythological world of Lai.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration with the Maria Lai Archive and Foundation and creates a sort of symbolic bridge with Ogliastra, her homeland and her inner world, which has always been characterized by a tension towards that elusive infinity.
