Collection: PILAR DOMINGUEZ
Pilar Dominguez (Santiago de Chile) lives and work in Milan. Her research has always been linked to the expressive power of colour. Colour that turns into form, sign, space, light and shade, colour that expresses basic human emotions: it becomes tragedy, joy, sadness.
In this series of drawings on paper, colour is always the protagonist. They are interior landscapes, states of mind, in a delicate balance between man and nature. They are the synthesis of these dark times, realised in this year and a half, of isolation and solitude. With these small-format works, she has arrived at a synthesis, at the essentiality of her thoughts with graphic gestures.
Her work is executed with very traditional techniques and high quality materials. She used 640 g paper, to combine the visual sensation with the tactile one, to feel the weight almost of bark, solid and white. The pigments used are antique ink, opaque tempera and watercolours, and she added gold as a symbol of light and splendour. Signs of interior forms, executed with gestures that are first very slow and then very fast. They may be seeds, or wooded landscapes, but they are above all "nature", that nature which has taken over the cities, which has been reinvigorated in the lockdown period, while we, shut up in our homes/cells in this silence of relationships, were looking for glances. In the depths of the signs she has traced the synthesis of what has been for this difficult and new period, faced all together but in complete solitude.
