GIOVANNI BLANCO | ALFABETO BLANCO EXHIBITION CATALOGUE
Giovanni Blanco was born in Ragusa in 1980. His expressive research is punctuated by a poetic imagery conceived through narrative cycles, where each individual image is conceived as a fragment of a larger discourse: "For me, the painting is an open device, a bearer of boundless exploration and memories, with the aim of organizing thoughts that convey my multidirectional gaze."
The volume, published on the occasion of Giovanni Blanco's exhibition "Alfabeto Blanco," on view at the Nuova Galleria Morone from May 9 to July 7, 2024, fully reflects the author's artistic approach. Each graphic element It is designed to reflect Blanco's attention to detail and meticulous approach, creating a product that is not only an informational medium, but an extension of his artistic oeuvre. In A4 format, the catalog evokes the format of the photocopy, the central element of the exhibition. Blanco, in fact, uses photographs, mostly taken by himself, which are photocopied and then reproduced in acrylic on cotton canvases mounted on wood. At the center of the catalog, in a small, powder-colored notebook, is the critical text by Gabriele Salvaterra. The choice of pink—which also appears on the cover—reflects the artist's skin color, notoriously ivory and resistant to any kind of solar stimulation. This small insert is not only an aesthetic detail: the presence of the graphic element of the squares refers both to the school theme of the alphabet—hence the exhibition's title—but is also a reference to the grid that the artist uses to find the golden proportions from photocopies to his paintings.
